The 'Kinnow' is a high yield mandarin hybrid cultivated extensively in the wider Punjab region of Pakistan and India .
It is a hybrid of two citrus cultivars — 'King' (Citrus nobilis) × 'Willow Leaf' (Citrus × deliciosa) — first developed by Howard B. Frost,[1] at the University of California Citrus Experiment Station. After evaluation, the 'Kinnow' was released as a new citrus hybrid for commercial cultivation in 1935.[2]

In a hot climate, plants can grow up to 35 feet high.[3] 'Kinnow' trees are highly productive; it is not uncommon to find 1000 fruits per tree.
The fruit matures in January or February. It peels easily and has a high juice content.
Seedless kinnow/ low seeded kinnow[edit]
The high seed content in this variety is a major hindrance in out-of-hand eating. Mikeal Roose[4] of University of California, Riverside, USA developed low seeded 'Kinnow' and this variety was released under the name 'Kinnow LS' in the year 2011. H.S.Rattanpal[5] of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, India developed low seeded 'Kinnow' through mutation breeding and recommended it under the name 'PAU Kinnow-1' in the year 2015. In Pakistan, a seedless 'Kinnow' has been developed (using selection method) by Niaz Ahmad Chaudhry '[1][2]', a team member of National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), Islamabad 'NARC' (former director of Citrus Research Institute (CRI), Sargodha,'CRI'.
Export from Asia[edit]
Most of the target export markets of Indian and Pakistani 'Kinnow' are those of developing countries. Only 2.6 percent of Kinnow exports target the markets of developed countries, which is due to the emerging demand for seedless Kinnow by the developed countries. About 61 percent of total world exports of oranges and mandarins are of seedless varieties. Some important export markets for 'Kinnow' are:Iran, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Netherlands, Philippines, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Russia and Vietnam.[6] Indonesia has also offered market access to Kinnow, from Pakistan at zero per cent.[7]Over 40% of the Pakistani exports of Kinnows went to Russia in 2015.[8]
Harvesting and handling[edit]
'Kinnow' harvesting starts when the fruit's external colour becomes orange, from December to February. The best harvesting time is mid-January to mid-February, when the fruit attains a TSS/acid ratio of 12:1 to 14:1. The fruit quality declines in later pickings. Fruits are harvested by clipping the stem with the help of sharp clippers (secateurs). The stem is cut as short as possible to avoid mechanical injury to the fruit in packing and transits. As it is a comparatively loose rind fruit, harvesting by pulling fruits with one's hands is avoided. Coating 'Kinnow' fruits with commercial waxes can increase the shelf life up to 60 days. The fruit can be stored in cold storage at a temperature of 4-5 °C and a relative humidity of 85-90%.[9]
Fruit processing[edit]
Food processing includes the selection of good-quality fruit. The ideal 'Kinnow' is firm to slightly soft, smooth-skinned with no deep grooves, and deep orange to almost red. Human hands can better judge and avoid product with soft spots, dull and faded coloring or rough and bumpy skin. Many processing technologies have been developed by state agricultural universities and other research institutes of India. Kinnow fruits can be stored at room temperature conditions or under cold storage conditions.[9]

The Sunday Blog # 138
Today is the Sunday the 25th of November 2018 , the 16th of Rabi ul Awwal 1440 H till the Sunset ( 5:42 pm , Karachi ) and this is my the Sunday Blog # 138 ( Hundred and thirty eight ) .
First of All i want everybody to know that i have yet again survived the Thanksgiving and the Black Friday ....The Thanksgiving this year came here in between the 12th of Rabi ul Awwal and the Black Friday so you can imagine how it must have been ...and personally it was not a very Happy one because i am trying to distant my self from all the All American Clubs and association both here and there ....I know that wont be very easy but at least i can try .
So Anyways as i was saying ...that the fourth Thursday of the month of November passed just like the rest of the first , second and third Thursday of the month of November ...woke up , washed cleaned , had brunch and prayed , recited had fateha for the last American Uncle who went into the witness protection program without leaving a clue as to where did he hide the diamonds ....no key or the code to the locker where they may be lying safely for the eternity or as long as the bank charges expire ...so anyways you know how i hate the heray kahan hain ( where are the diamonds ? ) fairytales and movies ...i do sincerely hope that he told some of the near or dear ones before the exit otherwise the FBI will never let me live in peace or let me forget him ever as long as i live ....
The obsession for diamonds is very addictive and dangerous as well as scary especially for the security for someone who has no idea he has one . They tried their best to replace the diamonds with zircon which by the way is also a gem in its own right but cheap and brittle of course . I do sincerely hope it may have worked for him because in the later life he stopped mentioning either . Which baffles me ...must have had a really bad road accident which he never informed us about because he did give up the chain smoking as well . That is quite something . I did get a chance of smelling his dirty clothes on my way to the laundry several times while he was here staying with us for about a month a couple of times ...and to my surprise ..the utmost ...no i did not smell the smoke or any other kind of stimulant ...anyway .
Wished he would have told me how to overcome the addiction himself especially of the chain smoking ...because just by observing him for few days ...i only get to the deduction that an american of Pacific or Asian origin can get over any hazardous addiction by religiously watching Hindi soap sas bahu serials especially the Balika Vadhu
No i am not kidding and even though i do not have a reproduce-able evidence to verify my assertions but indeed this is a verifiable fact and can be easily corroborated you don't need to take my word for it .
So anyways ever since i found out ...discovered that some serious addictions can be over come by the regular use of Saas bahu soap serials on Hindi television channels like stars , zee and colors ..re broadcasted by millions of other local television channels and cable in house channels , i started to research and experiment it myself . I found it extremely helpful in overcoming the addiction of newspapers . My research was just half way about some other addictions when suddenly the honorable High Court put a ban first on the direct channels and later on the re broadcast of some saas bahu serials on the local channels and in house cable channels . So the results are still un conclusive and thus cannot be shared or published at the moment but i can still assure that if the study had been complete and not halted in the middle the results would have been very supportive and conclusive in the favor of the Hindi saas bahu soap serials as well .
Honestly i always hated his chain smoking and the very fact that he was not only allowed to do so in a strictly non smoking area , our home , but also that i had to go search for a brand that was not available in the market . It was extremely embarrassing for my very under aged mind . looking back now , i have no clue as to why i never ever lighted even one cig or smoked when i could have smoked a whole carton without ever being caught . Never even once was i caught or have to be reminded . So when years later i saw him again and he said i have given up smoking at first i could not believe my ears ...slowly and gradually i realized that he has been in the near death situation too often in a hospital emergency and icu and operation theaters ...and maybe once or twice he was gone for so long that he met his dearly departed elder Brother my dearly departed Papa ( may his soul rest in peace in heaven Amen !) and he gave him a piece of his mind about smoking so he had to quit . And not just quit but he need someone to vouch for him that he had quit so he came down here and not smoked . Infact one day we were trying to ignite some coal for the BBQ inside the kitchen and the smoke filled inside which made him jump and the color of his face turned very different as if we have elected a lady Pope .
okay so i believe that is enough remembering for today. Now i need to take a short break

3:38 am And now about the Black Friday !!
Here most people not particularly very religious feels that calling a friday which is suppose to be too sacred to us is extremely blasphemous so they are coming up with so many alternatives to make sure they are in the game ....and yet feel good about it as well . Anyways regardless of the time difference ...our this friday here in the most dangerous city in the world , Karachi suddenly became very very bright and cheerful with a happyz ending of a deadly drama in which two police officers of the Sindh Police laid down their lives ...Salute !
and three terrorist lost theirs as well . who appears in the cctv footage to be the terminators roach killers ...why else would they park their cars so far away if they knew they had to stay for long and may need to get away in a hurry ....beats ...
There are too many gossips regarding the attack on the consulate ...but since few hours ago the enemies of the Government of MQM were on the road blocking the traffic on the faisal highway to protest against the supreme court of Pakistan under the manipulation of the Mr Farooq Sattar ...the former ex mayor of karachi who is believed to have started all this builders mafia or acted as a catalyst ...well as all his former colleagues and partners in crime are either dead , or exiled , people were not at all surprised to see him on the road with the agents of the Mumbai , Dubai builders Mafia karachi chapter . One more thing that i keep hearing very often here in karachi the most dangerous city in the world , was so easily proved that Thanksgiving day that it is the Builder's Mafia that is trying to desperately to save the MQM after the ISI , CIA and Mi6 disowned it .
So as Mr Shief faqir once too often said ....Money without power signifies nothing !! and so there you have it ...MQM minus Farooq Sattar and Farooq sattar without power sitting on the road with some of the wealthiest as well as richest people in town . Anybody in that crowd could have easily hired an army of gunmen to deliver the message ....
So anyways ....regardless of who was behind or sponsored this unusual event in the history of all Blacks fridays ....i am very thankful because it endorses my tagline ....Karachi the Most dangerous city in the World .... Thank you Sindh Police ....after watching the toy gun toting Mr Faisal Vah Vah on satellite television , who in his right frame of mind will argue otherwise ...Ha Ha !
So then there was the california wild fires going on for too long and killing too many americans ....it could also be rage or revenge or reaction ...you never know ...maybe i have watched too many jackie chen movies ....but never have i even seen any Chinese going for chinese like that ....especially when it was not even confirmed that the Thanksgiving was officially over ....it just looks as if somebody gave them the wrong address ...

So if the weekend was so exciting imagine how the rest of the week must have been ....
First of all in my previous Sunday Blog ...i was so hopeful that Pakistan will win the First Test Match against the New Zealand the next day that is on Monday . Pakistan only need 139 runs in two days of play the fourth and fifth day of the five days test match ...But some how it seems that the Pakistan team or the skipper or the management decided to hand it to the New Zealand on a paper plate . yes they were all out needing just a four to win .....I have still not recovered from the shock and neither did the television which turned green screen showing nothing at all . only the sound in the background .
And now the second test match have began yesterday ....and even though pakistan batted ok but we cannot believe how it will end on the fifth day ...a test match ending a day and a half early do sounds like a foul play or extreme gratification . no matter what it has been an uphill task for the skipper Sarfarz ...who is now only winning the T20 series , the ODi's and the test matches are so easily slipping away from their hands that the selectors and Board may start thinking once again . a task they completely put off because of the continuous and invigorating T20 wins . Luckily the international cricket may end very soon for the skipper sarfarz bail out plan ....during the PSL 4 he might do much better for the quetta gladiators and put his critics to rest ....Another of the greats of this game of PSL none other than mr Wasim akhter or akram or whatever after completely demolishing the Multan Sultans and the Schon Properties is now set to finish the ARY's Kings once and for All . So i wish him and his australian second wife a godspeed ...!
People who don't know or care much about the game of cricket will be thinking what the hell is he talking about ...so i better stop right here and let the event come and go ....then we will know for sure if it is true or not ...honestly i am done with ARY kings team ...they probably enjoy losing when nobody expects them to and since they can and there is no way i can change that when they have put all their money on losing makes me really feel extremely sad . Anyways with Wasim as the President ...it will be interesting to watch them go down once and for all . a dead end .
Okay i still have time because the Sun rise here in karachi is 6:55 am more than an hour from now ...so i can go on and on and on just like the people on the US Mexico Border ...the breaking news is that there is still very much confusion about the deal between the two governments ....

Okay i am so drowsy now that i don't think there is any chance of me going for the winter paya breakfast or sunday Brunch ...and its not at all cold enough even though the room digital clock temperature read out is finally moving down one degree just when i thought it had got jammed somehow .Besides the news last evening was that the grand operation against anti- encroachment finally cleared the Food Street kerbs of Burns road . I am not sure if the overjoyed owners and workers of the eateries will be in the right state of mind to cook and sell at the moment so maybe i let them settle and will eat some at home .

up until now i have been just hearing this from the toadstools grown all over my Jamshedtown and where ever i go in karachi the most dangerous city in the world ...the day before yesterday as i was enjoying the winter sun on my way back from the juma mubarak prayer ...i saw an under construction building on KBW cars showroom area by the most unlucky lakhani builders ...ever since he started this project here ...one or the other mishap is happening to the mafia ....now most of his under construction upper floors are way over the kerb ...most civic ( not honda ) agencies are fighting for and re claiming ...so i wonder ...or should i ?

no no its not the morning ...but the cloudy sky outside and inside feeling fresh after the lunch , the bath and prayer ....so
okay i checked the fridge ...we are out of eggs the last one was just used in cooking ...so maybe i will pay a visit to the nearest shop or market ...it is not good to not have at least three eggs in waiting during this escalating prices season ....almost half the year we had the same price of eggs this year until the generals election ....when suddenly the price of eggs was increased and now it was again increased because of the austerity drive ....and uncertain weather ....as they say too short and too long ....
so anyways ...winter or not ...last week we had the first paper crust ( Kaghzi ) Walnuts and this week we had our first dirt fried oh sorry roasted peanuts ....and dirt roasted sweet potatoes ....
Okay and how can i not mention ...even though we are both trying to distance ourselves from each other until the leadership grows up ....But it was mighty awesome of Mr trump to tweet and specifically mention Pakistan before the presidential Pardon of Peas and Carrots ...before this thanksgiving ...Thanks Again for the Fools ....

5:20 pm just had tea ....Thanks to our very dear neighbour and family friend who invited the whole family yesterday evening for a wholesome sumptuous eid milad feast ...the kitchen activity is less than normal today for any given sunday for as long as i can remember ....very very mellowed down mood outside this room ...it was fun to just go out had a cup of tea ...chit chat asked if somebody need something ...glad to know that nothing is required ....so i came back hoping to add a few hundred words before the sunset ( 5:42 pm , karachi ) and maghrib prayer break . I do sincerely hope that this mellow down mood outside has nothing to do with this my the Sunday Blog # 138 ( Hundred and thirty eight) and is just because of the sumptious eid milad feast by the very dear neighbours and family friend who by the way are under extreme builder's mafia pressures these days from all sides geometrically possible ....we may have been through similar pressures a number of times over the years ...but this seems in superlative ..all side at the same time ....I very sincerely hope they survive and grow taller than they already are among the neighbours and their own peers . Amen !
The very same builders are still undecided to put us to the same pressures again or not ...the field is almost set , game without the match ...lol

yesterday i heard that our butcher complained that the qurbani meat gets infected with bacteria ....does this looks like infected to you ...and if it had any bacteria i would have been the first one to fell ....

Anyways ...so finally this is officially the end of Bakra eid ...i don't think anybody will let me eat or consume the fat tail of the fat tail sheep we were saving for a snowy day here in the Jamshed town of Karachi the most dangerous city in the world even more this week because we are hosting an Arms expo for the all the friendly countries of the world and china . So we will not talk about it even after the event ...enjoy !

yes i am back...So where were we ....okay never mind and just do the movies of the week and finish this my the Sunday Blog # 138 ( Hundred and thirty eight ) at five thousand words . you know i was just thinking how about that during the winter months i only blog in the night and take the daylight time to relax and have fun ....that is first i go to sleep after fajr from sunrise to noon . then i go out for the walk or shopping come back and eat . then take siesta or go for prayer or visit somebody and then i go for a bus ride or walk or prayer and soon after the maghrib prayer i start the blogging again and go on with a break or two and finish before the midnight that way i wont be tense at all during the day ....either way i am much disturbed and cannot concentrate during the day time look at how fast flowing the the words are from eight to twelve ...that way it will be six to twelve and twelve to six ....a full twelve hours blog instead of a so called twenty four hours blog ...which actually is much less if you count the hours i do it honestly .
okay then to the movies of the week .....
One more reason for not applying for a Canadian visa or job . 
The party did not end even after the dinner ...so i was not able to sleep at all before the midnight ...but the breaks in the movie gave me ample chance to pace up and down waiting for the party party to return ...i knew they wont come very soon so i should have gone to bed soon after they left ....mistake . Anyways coming back to the movie there is no jason Bourne in it only his pictures and files ....mention of him seem taboo ...And since it was dubbed in Hindi on the channel movie world ...trust me that was the worst hindi dubbing ever ....it just reminded me of the Google urdu translations ....ya that bad !!!
okay that's it ...oh by the way i did start to watch another while i was waiting but i could not get its name and i do know the actors and can search the name but then i left it in the middle so never mind ....okay it was the jumper (2008 )
okay i need a break very desperately so please don't go away ...i'll be back soon
11:17 pm okay the last half hour before i start searching for the song video to share tonight and take leave ...during the break i tried to relax my back , had tea and prince chocolate biscuits ...this week they introduced a chocolate covered prince chocolate biscuits ...at double the price ...haven't the chance to try it yet but i don't think my gums will allow it .
